Zhengzhou Nissan is preparing to launch the second-generation NV200 MPV in the fourth quarter of 2026. Earlier spy shots confirmed development of the NV200’s successor, and the latest images show the van’s exterior and interior in near-production form. The new NV200 will arrive in China with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain.

Zhengzhou Nissan, a subsidiary of Dongfeng Motor Group, serves as the commercial vehicle arm of the Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture. Its current lineup includes the Nissan Frontier Pro, an NEV and ICE pickup based on the Dongfeng Z9.

Earlier leaks suggested the next-generation van would take a fresh approach. Zhengzhou Nissan is positioning the new NV200 as a “mild off-road PHEV MPV,” likely targeting China’s expanding vanlife market.

Exterior

While earlier spy shots showed the NV200 heavily camouflaged, the latest images reveal the van in near-showroom condition. It adopts Nissan’s newest NEV design language, featuring a dual-layer enclosed front grille and flat tri-spoke wheels. The boxy shape remains reminiscent of the original NV200.

Like the first-generation model, the new van retains quarter-glass A-pillar windows and a very similar front door design. Sliding doors are fitted on both sides. Nissan has opted for traditional door handles, consistent with other entry-level commercial and passenger vans in China.

Interior

The new NV200 shares its steering wheel with Nissan’s NEV sedan siblings, the N6 and N7. Other NEV-inspired touches include a center-mounted infotainment screen and a steering column-mounted shifter stalk. The center console features physical climate control buttons.

The van’s interior is mostly covered in grey plastic, with the dashboard top appearing to use a softer light grey material. A hole in the center console above the AC buttons hints at a mechanical shifter, likely for potential ICE powertrains with manual or automatic transmissions.

Potential Specs & Pricing

Chinese sources confirm the new NV200 will feature a PHEV powertrain. Nissan currently offers the N6 sedan in PHEV form, pairing a 75 kW (101 hp) 1.5-liter engine with a 155 kW (208 hp) electric motor. The N6 achieves a CLTC EV range of 180 km from a 21.1 kWh LFP battery. This system may appear in the NV200 in a de-rated form, as both the current N6 and the previous NV200 are front-wheel drive (FWD).

Both models also share front McPherson struts and rear torsion bar suspension, and the new NV200 is not expected to deviate from this setup. Despite being positioned as a “mild off-road MPV,” AWD is not anticipated.

The first-generation NV200 was built and sold in China from 2010 to 2018 under the Zhengzhou Nissan brand. It launched with a retail price range of 79,800 to 127,800 yuan (approximately $11,700 to $18,800 USD). It measured 4,400 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, 1,847 mm in height, and had a wheelbase of 2,725 mm.

The new NV200 is expected to be priced similarly to its predecessor, with base-trim ICE powertrains helping to lower the entry price. Chinese sources claim it will also be offered with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine and a 1.2-liter ePower hybrid, though CarNewsChina cannot confirm this.

More on Nissan in China

According to China EV Datatracker, Nissan delivered 30,025 units domestically in May 2026. This is significantly lower than its peak in November 2025, when the automaker delivered 62,300 units.

Poised to be offered with a wide variety of powertrains, the new NV200 could be a hit if priced aggressively. The model may also be exported abroad, as Nissan has terminated all production of the first-generation NV200 in Japan.
