The initial batch of right-hand-drive (RHD) Mazda 6e production vehicles has been sighted in Thailand, signaling the Japanese automaker's preparation for a July launch in both Thailand and Australia, with a UK rollout to follow. Manufactured at the Changan-Mazda joint venture facility in Nanjing, China, where it is marketed as the EZ-6, the 6e is now entering export markets.

According to Thairath Online, a shipment of 500 units arrived at Laem Chabang Port, north of Pattaya City, on Friday. This marks the first public appearance of a production-ready RHD Mazda 6e, with additional vehicles expected to reach both RHD markets prior to their official launches.

Beyond Thailand and Australia, the 6e has been confirmed for other RHD territories including the UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Indonesia. While Mazda has no immediate plans to introduce the 6e in its domestic Japanese market, Carz Automedia reports that a Malaysian launch is under evaluation.

For context, the Mazda EZ-6 debuted in China in October 2024. The export-focused 6e was later unveiled at the 2025 Brussels Auto Show, with left-hand-drive European deliveries commencing in mid-2025. While the 6e is exclusively offered as a battery electric vehicle (BEV), the EZ-6 is also available as an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV).

Further Details on Mazda, the 6e, and the EZ-6

Both the Mazda EZ-6 and 6e ride on Changan's EPA1 platform, sharing close ties with the Deepal SL03 and L07 sedans. Similarly, the CX-6e SUV—known as the EZ-60 in China—is a platform sibling of the Deepal S07 SUV.

This collaboration stems from the Changan-Mazda joint venture in China. Mazda asserts that extensive refinements have been applied to ensure both vehicles embody the brand's "Jinba-Ittai" philosophy of a unified driver and car.

In China, the EZ-6 is offered with 56.1 kWh and 68.8 kWh LFP batteries sourced from CATL-Changan, providing 480 km and 600 km of CLTC electric range, respectively. It is powered by a single 190 kW (255 hp) rear-mounted motor.

EREV versions of the EZ-6 pair a 28 kWh LFP pack with a 1.5-liter 70 kW (94 hp) range extender, though the rear motor is de-rated to 160 kW (215 hp). These variants offer a 200 km CLTC electric range and support DC fast charging at 50 kW.

Upon its initial launch, the 6e was offered with the same 68.8 kWh LFP pack and a "Long Range" 80 kWh ternary NMC pack. However, the latter option saw limited uptake due to its reduced motor output of 180 kW (241 hp) and DC fast charging capped at approximately 90 kW.

Mazda has now introduced a new 78 kWh LFP battery, also supplied by CATL-Changan, for the latest RHD 6e models. Mazda Australia reports that this new pack enhances both range and fast charging capabilities, enabling the 6e to achieve 560 km on a single charge. This option is expected to be extended to European markets as well.

In terms of pricing, an EZ-6 with the 68.8 kWh pack starts at 150,800 yuan (approximately $22,200 USD) in China. Meanwhile, the 6e is priced at more than double in most export markets; for instance, UK pricing begins at £38,995 (around $51,500 USD).

Aggressive domestic pricing has not yielded strong results for the EZ-6; China EV DataTracker reports only 1,833 units delivered in China in May 2026. Despite Mazda's relatively small footprint in the Chinese market, the company is on track to become the first joint venture to sell more new energy vehicles (NEVs) than internal combustion engine (ICE) cars.

For reference, the 6e measures 4,921 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, 1,485 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. Curb weight ranges from 1,778 kg to 2,037 kg, depending on the powertrain and trim. The vehicle features front McPherson struts and a rear multi-link suspension.
